Gawrys Skippers Sailing To Seventh Place Finish At Coast Guard Clark Trophy

NEW LONDON, Conn. --  Senior Jeffrey Gawrys (Marblehead, Mass.) skippered the Massachusetts Maritime sailing team to a seventh place finish at the Coast Guard Clark Trophy Regatta over the weekend on the Thames River, as the Buccaneers opened the spring portion of their 2011-12 campaign with additional competition at the Veitor Trophy Regatta that was also hosted by Coast Guard.

Gawrys was joined by sophomores Timothy Dexter (Manchester, Vt.) and Andrew Gregoire (Charlotte, N.C.) as well as freshman Frederik Holm (Pittsburgh, Pa.), as the crew competed in 13 races over the course of the weekend for Massachusetts Maritime.

In the Veitor Trophy competition, sophomore Kyle Mahaffey (Southbury, Conn.) and freshman Sean McLaughlin (Fairhaven, Mass.) comprised the “A” boat for the Buccaneers, while sophomore Matthew Butler (Guilford, Conn.) and freshmen Peter Markarian (Hyannis, Mass.) sailed in the “B” Division.  Freshmen Daniel Barry (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Camille Aiello (Hamden, Conn.) headed the “C” Division crew for Massachusetts Maritime, as the tandems combined to finish 16th overall in the event.

Massachusetts Maritime returns to action with competition next weekend at the Salve Regina Southern Series Two, Boston University Between The Bridges Regattas.
