Annapolis, Md./Boston, Mass.

ANNAPOLIS, Md./BOSTON, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime sailing team posted a third place finish at the prestigious Navy Shields Trophy Regatta over the weekend hosted by the United States Naval Academy, as the Buccaneers finished behind only the host Midshipmen and California Maritime in a field of 10 competitors.

Seniors Graham Philpot (Laconia, N.H.), Bradley Shepherd (Winter Park, Fla.) and Eric Pattison (Woodbury, Conn.) helped lead the Buccaneers to the strong showing along with juniors Mike Reney (Duxbury, Mass.) and Samuel Fowler, sophomores Andrew Gregoire (Charlotte, N.C.) and Timothy Dexter (Manchester Center, Vt.) as well as freshman Sean McLaughlin (Fairhaven, Mass.).  Massachusetts Maritime finished ahead of Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, New York Maritime, Maine Maritime and the United States Military Academy in the competition, and the Buccaneers’ final team standing was their highest at Navy since placing second in the Intrepid Trophy in 2004.

Additionally, Massachusetts Maritime placed fourth at the Boston University Invitational over the weekend, as the duo of sophomore Kaitlyn Nanartowich (Newport, R.I.) and freshman Andrew Morgan sailed in the “A” Division and the tandem of freshmen Priscilla Stoll (Pocasset, Mass.) and John Gallagher (Bourne, Mass.) competed in the “B” Division.

The Buccaneers return to action next weekend with competition at the New Hampshire Chris Loder Trophy and the Commonwealth Invitational.
