BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Kerrin Beovich (Seaford, N.Y.) registered 13 kills to lead WPI to a pair of 3-0 non-league victories over Maine-Presque Isle and host Massachusetts Maritime in a tri-match played Saturday afternoon at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.  The Buccaneers fell by a similar 3-0 final in the opening match of the day to the Owls.

Junior Alyssa Fidanza (Ellington, Conn.) added 10 service aces and seven digs in the opening triumph for WPI’s Engineers (12-3) over Maine-Presque Isle (2-14) that came by game scores of 25-10, 25-8 and 25-11, while freshman Alyssa Corini (Pompton Plains, N.J.) added five kills and five digs and junior Alex Rangel (Weston, Fla.) collected 13 set assists.  Juniors Belinda Nwagbara (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Bailey Sarber (Westerly, R.I.) added six and five kills, respectively, for WPI in the nightcap victory over Massachusetts Maritime (0-18) that came by game scores of 25-7, 25-7 and 25-4, while senior Kim Woodward (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Sarah Cook (New Paltz, N.Y.) added 11 set assists and six service aces, respectively.

Freshman Elizabeth Kofstad (Presque Isle, Maine) notched six total kills on the day for the Owls, including three kills to go with five digs and three service aces in a 25-14, 25-22, 25-23 opening win over the Buccaneers.  Freshman Samantha Roy (Van Buren, Maine) added eight set assists and four kills in the triumph for Maine-Presque Isle, which also received three digs from sophomore Shaina Hood (Princeton, Maine) in the setback to WPI.

Sophomore Katja Juergens (Boylston, Mass.) recorded five kills in Massachusetts Maritime’s opening setback to the Owls, while junior Alex Burgess-Chrost (Leominster, Mass.) and freshman Kelsey Pelletier (Bristol, Conn.) combined for nine kills and six service aces for the hosts.  Freshman Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) notched 15 set assists and eight service aces in the opening match for the Buccaneers, who also received five digs from junior Laura Basile (Cambridge, Mass.) in the setback to WPI.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Pine Manor in a non-league match that begins at 7:00 p.m.  Maine-Presque Isle will be idle until Saturday, October 15th when the Owls head to Farmington, Maine for a non-league tri-match with Maine-Farmington and Maine-Fort Kent beginning at 6:00 p.m., while WPI travels to New London, Conn. on Tuesday evening to take on Coast Guard in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference match that begins at 7:00 p.m.
