THROGGS NECK, N.Y. --  Freshman Clarissa Silveira (White Plains, N.Y.) notched six kills and eight service aces to lead New York Maritime to a 3-0 non-league victory over Massachusetts Maritime in opening round play of the Second Annual Maritime Classic Saturday evening at Riesenberg Gymnasium.

Junior Claudette Killian (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) added four kills, seven service aces and 14 set assists in the triumph for the host Privateers (3-2), who swept the contest by game scores of 25-12, 25-17 and 25-18.  Junior Lauren Johnson (Lansing, Mich.) added four kills and five service aces for New York Maritime, which also received four kills from junior Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y.).

Freshman Kelsey Pelletier (Bristol, Conn.) recorded three kills in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (0-10), who also received four set assists and six digs from freshman Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) as well as four digs each from junior Alex Burgess-Chrost (Leominster, Mass.) and sophomore Michaela Garrity (Tiverton, R.I.).

Massachusetts Maritime will take on Maine Maritime at 9:00 a.m. and Merchant Marine at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday in second round play at the Second Annual Maritime Classic, while New York Maritime will square off with Maine Maritime at 11:00 a.m. and Merchant Marine at 3:00 p.m. in second round action of the tournament.
