Women's Soccer: Buccaneers Lose in Final Minutes to AMC

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers hosted Anna Maria College on Monday afternoon in a non-conference match. The Buccaneers controlled most of the game though they were unable to hang on as the AMCATS scored the game winning goal in the 88th minute to down the Bucs, 1-0.

Maritime took 11 shots in the game, four on target. Kylie MaherJulia QuindleyJulia Podchaiski, and Abigail Lelievre each had a shot on goal. Goalkeeper Reagan Kerecz had a great day in goal making six saves and allowing the lone goal.

AMCATS leading scorer DeAnna Baker scored the game winner, assisted by Keannah Dunsmore. Goalkeeper Alice Yokabaskas was also stellar in goal making three saves.

It was a game of the goalies with both keepers making multiple outstanding saves to keep their teams in the game. The Buccaneers had their opportunities with multiple balls inside the six yard box and were unable to capitalize. Anna Maria also took advantage of their opportunities but were unable to keep up with the speed of the Bucs defense. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie.

In the second half, both teams were able to attack on a number of occasions and for the first 42 minutes of the half could not find the back of the net. In the 88th minute, on a goal kick by Maritime, the ball landed in the middle of the field at the foot of Dunsmore. She lumped the ball forward to the right side of the 18 yard box where Baker took the ball around a defender and found the top right corner for the late goal. The Bucs had two more opportunities in the final two minutes but were denied and the AMCATS took home the 1-0 win.

Anna Maria outshot Maritime 19-11 and had five corners to the Bucs four. 

The Buccaneers are back home on Friday against Framingham State in conference play at 7pm.
