Women's Soccer: Bucs Lose to MASCAC Leaders at Home

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Friday night, the Bucs played host to the top team in the MASCAC, Westfield State, in a conference match at Clean Harbors Stadium. The Bucs had their chances early and were unable to take advantage of a few Owls mistakes. Westfield remains on top of the conference after a 3-0 win.

Julia Podchaiski took the only shot on target for the Buccaneers in the game. Goalkeeper Brady Deschamps made 16 saves and allowed the three Westfield goals.

Delaney Parker scored twice for the visitors, Kylee Murphy scored once. The team's leading scorer, Jenn Rennich, tallied an assist in the win. Goalkeeper Julia Robak earned the victory between the pipes. In relief, Sarah Fuller made one save for the Owls.

Maritime were unable to take advantage of two early mistakes by the Owls and the teams remained scoreless for the first 27 minutes. In the 28th minute, Murphy scored on a breakaway up the right side, finding the top left corner of the net for the first goal and what went down as the game winner. The teams went to the break with the Owls leading 1-0.

In the second, Parker scored twice; first in the 58th minute on a pass from Jenn Rennich and again in the 66th minute unassisted as she dribbled through the middle and found the bottom right corner of the netting to make it 3-0 Owls.

The Buccaneers are back home on Monday, October 10th at 5pm against Anna Maria in a non-conference matchup with the AMCATS.
