Women's Soccer: Buccaneers Shutout Lions for First Win

QUINCY, Mass -- The Buccaneers, in search of their first win of 2022, took on Eastern Nazarene on the road on Wednesday evening and found what they were looking for by the final of 3-0.

It was a night of defenders scoring for the Bucs with Taylor Blanton and Abigail Lelievre scoring their first career goals and senior captain and centerback Julia Quindley scoring her first of the season. Senior captain Julia Podchaiski and freshman Brady Deschamps were credited with assists in the victory. It was the first in a Bucs uniform for Deschamps. Goalkeeper Reagan Kerecz picked up the win and the clean sheet making three saves and keeping the Lions off the board.

Eastern Nazarene took eight shots total in the match, three on target. Goalkeeper Jasmine Arzu made nine saves and allowed the three Maritime goals.

Maritime outshot ENC 17-8 and had four corners to the Lions one.

In the first half, streaking up the sideline, Blanton took a shot from deep on a pass from Deschamps to make it 1-0 in the 17th minute. The goal would prove to be the game winner. Maritime held their one-goal advantage to the halftime break.

The Buccaneers protected their lead for the full ninety minutes and late in the game added some insurance. In the 82nd minute, on a pass from Podchaiski, Lelievre scored on a left footed shot that she tucked into the bottom left of the net past Arzu. Six minutes later, Quindley put the game away on a direct free kick that found the top of the net to put the Bucs up by the final score of 3-0.

The win for the Buccaneers marks the first career win for head coach Lauren Salem.

The Buccaneers are on the road again on Saturday, October 1st when they take on MCLA in conference play.
