Buccaneer Split Points with Dean in Season Opener

FRANKLIN, MA -- Women's soccer opened their 2022 campaign on the road against Dean College on Saturday afternoon on Grant Field in Franklin. Neither team could break the first half tie and each team went home with a point.

Dean struck first in the ninth minute on a goal from Jazzy Sztyler-Magee. She found the ball loose in front of the Bucs net and found the back of the net to give her team a 1-0 advantage.

Senior captain Julia Podchaiski scored the equalizer in the waning minutes of the first half, scoring on a cross from Taylor Blanton that pinballed around the box until Pods was able to sneak a shot past the Dean goalkeeper.

The second half went back and forth between the two teams with each team creating chances but neither of the defenses budging. After 90 minutes of play the teams ended in a 1-1 draw.

Freshman goalkeeper Brady Deschamps made a save and allowed a goal in her debut for the Buccaneers.

Dean goalkeeper Haley Gaunt made eight saves and allowed the one Buc goal.

Maritime outshot the Bulldogs 19-5. Senior captain Julia Quindley led all players with seven shots. Podchaiski was right on her heels with six. Blanton fired off three shots of her own.

Dean outpaces Maritime in corners, doubling up the Bucs, 12-6.

The Buccaneers (0-0-1) will take on UMPI on Labor Day, Monday, September 5th at 12pm in the team's home opener at Clean Harbors Stadium.
