CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Massachusetts Maritime volleyball dropped three non-league decisions over the weekend at the two-day Elms Blazer Invitational, as the Buccaneers fell by identical 3-0 finals to both SUNY-Cobleskill and Husson in opening round action Friday evening before dropping a 3-0 decision to host Elms in the tournament finale Saturday afternoon at Picknelly Arena.
Sophomore Alex Burgess-Chrost (Leominster, Mass.) led the way with 11 kills and eight digs on the weekend for Massachusetts Maritime (0-4), including a team-high five in a 25-14, 25-20, 25-18 setback to Elms (1-2). Fellow sophomore Suzanne Marino (Kings Park, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 kills and 20 digs, including five in a 25-9, 25-12, 25-9 setback to SUNY-Cobleskill (2-1) for the Buccaneers, which also received eight kills each from senior Victoria Presutti (Marshfield, Mass.) and freshman Kelly Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.), as the duo combined for 27 digs. Sophomore Joanne Robery (Plainville, Mass.) collected 35 set assists during the tournament, including 17 in a 25-15, 25-5-, 25-12 setback to Husson (3-0), while senior Allison Condino (Fitchburg, Mass.) added 11 set assists on the weekend.
Massachusetts Maritime heads to Leicester, Mass. on Tuesday evening for a non-league outing with Becker that begins at 7:00 p.m.
