BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman Lexie Ludewig (Goveland, Ill.) notched four kills and a pair of service aces to lead Coast Guard to a 3-0 non-league college volleyball victory over Massachusetts Maritime by game scores of 25-5, 25-7 and 25-11 in the season opener for both schools Wednesday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

Sophomore Catherine Walker (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) added three kills and three solo blocks for the visiting Bears (1-0), who also received three kills, three service aces and a block from freshman Kelsey DePorto (Frankfort, Ill.).  Sophomore Karen Matic (Oswego, Ill.) collected 15 set assists for the winners, who also received four service aces from freshman Sam Marmolejo (El Paso, Tex.) as well as a pair of kills and three blocks from sophomore Rachel Cuthrell (Palm City, Fla.).

Sophomore Suzanne Marino (Kings Park, N.Y.) notched three kills and six digs in the setback for the host Buccaneers (0-1), who also received three kills, four digs and a block from freshman Kelly Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) in her collegiate debut.  Sophomore Joanne Robery (Plainville, Mass.) chipped in with 15 set assists for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a combined seven digs from seniors Victoria Presutti (Marshfield, Mass.) and Allison Condino (Fitchburg, Mass.)

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Chicopee, Mass. on Friday afternoon for the two-day Elms Blazer Invitational, as the Buccaneers square off with SUNY-Cobleskill and Husson beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Coast Guard travels to New York City on Friday afternoon to participate in the two-day New York University Invitational, as the Bears face FDU-Florham in opening round play at 2:00 p.m.
