FINAL:                   BABSON 11, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 5

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Kyle Barsalou (Longmeadow, Mass.) notched a hat trick as Babson erupted for eight unanswered fourth quarter goals to post an 11-5 New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Beavers (5-5, 1-0 NEWMAC) trailed 4-3 entering the final frame, but markers off the sticks of sophomore Scott Doten (Western Springs, Ill.) and freshman Connor Flaherty (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) in the opening 1:10 of the quarter gave Babson the lead for good at 5-4.  Doten, Barsalou and Flaherty added additional tallies as part of the visitors’ decisive run, as the host Buccaneers (5-3, 0-1 NEWMAC) had taken a 2-1 first quarter advantage only to see the Beavers use a pair of second stanza scores to take a 3-2 lead at the break.  Junior Dylan Freudenberg (Islip, N.Y.) collected a pair of third quarter goals, including one with 1:23 to play in the period, to give Massachusetts Maritime its 4-3 edge heading into the final 15 minutes of action, setting the stage for Babson’s comeback.

Doten and Flaherty each finished with a pair of goals and an assist for three points in the triumph for the Beavers, who also received a pair of tallies from senior Alex Packer (Hudson, Ohio) as well as a marker and a pair of helpers off the stick of sophomore John Obadia (Port Washington, N.Y.).  Sophomore Alex Youngwall (Huntington, N.Y.) scored what proved to be the winning goal for Babson, which also received assists from senior Bobby MacCune (Braintree, Mass.) and freshman Connor D’Amelia (Newtown, Pa.).

Junior Drew Prowse (Wakefield, Mass.) and sophomore Reed McLean (Wilbraham, Mass.) each notched a goal and an assist in the setback for the Buccaneers, who also received a tally from freshman Kevin Collins (Hampden, Mass.) and a helper from sophomore Sean Staples (Norwell, Mass.).  Senior Adam Daroff (Pepper Pike, Ohio) picked up the win in goal for Babson with an eight-save effort, while freshman Keison Cunningham (Weymouth, Mass.) made 10 second half stops in suffering the setback in net for Massachusetts Maritime, which received 11 first half saves from senior Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.).  The Beavers outshot the Buccaneers by a 58-24 margin (32-13 on goal) and forced 30 turnovers by the hosts for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Regis in a non-league outing on Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:30 p.m., while Babson will be idle until next Saturday, April 5th when the Beavers head to Norton, Mass. to take on Wheaton in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference match that begins at 7:00 p.m.
