BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Ryan Murphy (Mansfield, Mass.) netted four goals and an assist for five points to lead 13th-ranked Springfield to an 18-4 New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

 

The visiting Pride (9-2, 3-0 NEWMAC) jumped out to a 5-0 first quarter advantage before using six unanswered tallies in the second quarter to build a 12-3 lead at the break, as junior Dylan Sheehan (Massapequa, N.Y.) added a marker and four assists in the triumph for Springfield, which also received a pair of goals each from junior Bryce Serriello (Centerville, Mass.) and sophomores Kevin Dean (Westhampton, N.Y.) and Jesse Freedman (Granby, Conn.).  Graduate student Colby Verge (Derry, N.H.), seniors Devin Abad (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Matt Fleisher (Franklin Lakes, N.H.), junior Jamey Conley (Waltham, Mass.), sophomore Joey Rainolo (Yorktown, N.Y.) and freshmen Matthew LaCroix (Westfield, Mass.) and Brendan Dooley (Setauket, N.Y.) also scored in the win for the Pride, who received five assists off the stick of senior Ryon Lynch (Frederick, Md.) as well as two helpers each from junior Kevin Sainte (Belmont, Mass.) and freshman Scott Rogers (Acton, Mass.).

 

Junior Dylan Freudenberg (Islip, N.Y.) netted a pair of goals in the setback for the host Buccaneers (7-5, 1-2 NEWMAC), who also received markers off the sticks of sophomore Nicholas Foley (Kingston, Mass.) and freshman Sam Jarvis (Laurel Springs, N.J.) as well as assists from sophomore Hayden Lynch (Dunstable, Mass.) and freshman Patrick Kearney (Scituate, Mass.).  Senior Connor Nash (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for Springfield with one first half stop, while seniors Robert Maher (Katonah, N.Y.) and Kevin MacBride (Merrick, N.Y.) combined for 12 second half saves for the visitors.  Senior Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) made 15 first half saves in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received nine stops after intermission from freshman Keison Cunningham (Weymouth, Mass.).  The Pride outshot the Buccaneers by a 54-27 margin while holding a 19-6 edge in faceoffs on the day.

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Wheaton in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference outing on Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Springfield hosts Amherst in a non-league match on Tuesday evening in Springfield, Mass. that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
