HARTFORD, Conn. --  Freshman Stephen Rogers (Watertown, Mass.) belted a pair of homers and drove in three runs to lead Trinity to a 9-4 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime in the season finale for both schools Monday afternoon at Trinity Diamond.

Rogers’ solo homer in the bottom of the second enabled the host Bantams (19-11) to even the score at 1-1 after junior Brad Musk’s (Dania, Fla.) RBI single gave the visiting Buccaneers (8-20) the early edge.  Massachusetts Maritime grabbed a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth on a two-run double off the bat of junior Michael Vargas (Natick, Mass.), but Trinity evened matters again in the bottom of the frame on freshman Brad Runowicz’s (Cheshire, Conn.) two-run homer.  The Bantams, who captured the NCAA Division III national championship two years ago, took the lead for good in the fifth on senior James Woods’ (Windham, N.H.) two-run round-tripper, and the hosts added four insurance tallies in the seventh on Rogers’ second home run of the day (a two-run shot) that was followed two batters later by Trinity’s fourth homer of the contest, a two-run blast off the bat of freshman Joe Papa (Cambridge, Mass.).  Musk’s second run-scoring single of the afternoon in the top of the eighth accounted for the final run of the day for the visitors and closed out the scoring for the contest.

Rogers rapped out three of Trinity’s 11 hits on the afternoon, as Wood, Papa and Runowicz each added two safeties for the Bantams, as freshman Ben Goldberg (Plainview, N.Y.) improved to 3-0 on the mound for the hosts with three scoreless innings of relief to go with three strikeouts.  Sophomore William Shouldice (Rutland, Vt.) joined Musk with two hits as part of a seven-hit Massachusetts Maritime attack for the contest, as junior Corey Murphy (East Wareham, Mass.) allowed six hits and five runs over the first five frames for the Buccaneers, fanning four along the way to fall to 3-4 on the spring.

Massachusetts Maritime Head Coach Bob Corradi will take a career total of 513 victories into his 39th season at the Buccaneer helm during the 2011 campaign.
