BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Corey Murphy (East Wareham, Mass.) tossed a complete-game five-hit shutout and struck out six to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 4-0 non-league college baseball victory over Emerson Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.

Murphy walked only two and scattered five singles to notch his second win of the season for the host Buccaneers (6-9), who plated the only run they would need in the second inning when junior Greg Wiggin (Marshfield, Mass.) forced in a run with a bases loaded walk.  Massachusetts Maritime extended its advantage to 4-0 with a three-run fifth inning outburst, as after junior Nick Levitre (Grafton, Mass.) forced in the second tally of the day with another bases loaded walk, junior Michael Vargas (Natick, Mass.) lofted a sacrifice fly and senior Joe Albano (Agawam, Mass.) stole home on a double-steal attempt to cap the scoring.  Levitre, Wiggin and fellow junior Andrew Saari (Framingham, Mass.) each rapped out two hits as a part of a 10-hit attack in the victory for the Buccaneers, while Murphy took care of the rest on the mound for the hosts, as he threw 127 pitches (78 strikes) in his complete-game effort that was played in less than two hours (1:59), as he has allowed just 10 hits over his last 24 2/3 innings.

Senior Ben McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) went the distance on the mound in the setback for the visiting Lions (11-12), as he walked six and struck out three in throwing 121 pitches (63 strikes) to fall to 4-2 on the season.  Five different players collected singles on the day for Emerson, as sophomore Geoff Lopes (East Falmouth, Mass.) recorded a single and drew a walk for the visitors.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Framingham State in a MASCAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at Noon, while Emerson travels to Providence, R.I. on Saturday afternoon for a GNAC twinbill with Johnson & Wales that also begins at Noon.
