Volleyball Defeated in Straight Sets by Trailblazers

NORTH ADAMS, Mass -- Buccaneers volleyball made their longest road trip of the season on Saturday to MCLA in Western Mass to take on the Trailblazers in conference play. Still searching for their first conference victory on the season, the Buccaneers were beaten in straight sets by the 'Blazers. 

 

The Basics

Final: Trailblazers 3, Buccaneers 0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-12)

Records: MCLA (12-3, 1-1)

               Maritime (3-12, 0-2)

 

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Marlo Stark led the Bucs attack with six kills. Izabella MackintoshShayla Narodowg, and Gemma Geisler each recorded four kills. 
  • Narodowg led the team in assists with 13 helpers.
  • Four different Buccaneers recorded one ace in the loss.
  • Defensively, Audrey Manning led the team in digs with eight and Stark recorded seven. 
  • At the net, Mackintosh recorded the only block of the match for Maritime.
  • In total, the Bucs had 19 kills with a -.023 hitting percentage, 19 assists, four aces, 31 digs, and one block.

MCLA

  • Anais Badio led all players with 10 kills in the MCLA win.
  • Shannon O'Brien led the way with 14 assists and Beth Harris had 13. 
  • Badio also led all players in aces with three.
  • Defensively, Elizabeth Brown had 10 digs.
  • At the net, two players each had one block for MCLA.37 
  • In total, the Trailblazers recorded 34 kills with a .259 hitting percentage, 30 assists, seven aces, 37 digs and two blocks.

How It Happened

The Buccaneers had a tough time with MCLA in their conference matchup on Saturday, and though they took a small lead in the first set, Maritime was ultimately beaten 25-19 giving the Trailblazers a 1-0 match advantage.

In the second set, it was more of the same for both teams. The Bucs took a lead early on, 8-7, and after a handful of unforced errors lost the set 25-18 with MCLA take a 2-0 lead in the match.

MCLA controlled the third set, leading by as many as 12 points, 20-8. They outscored the Bucs 5-4 to close out the game, 25-12, and the match, 3-0.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers will host Framingham State in conference play on Wednesday, October 11th at 7pm inside the Clean Harbors Athletics Center. The game will also mark the team's annual dig pink match to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer, in partnership with the Sideout Foundation.
