Volleyball Loses Both Ends of Tri-Match in Paxton

PAXTON, Mass -- The Buccaneers traveled to Central Mass on Saturday for a tri-match at Anna Maria with UMass Boston and Anna Maria. The Bucs, looking for their first win of the season, came up short losing both matches, 3-0.

 

Match One

Final: Beacons 3, Buccaneers 0 (25-12, 25-6, 25-10)

Records: UMass Boston (2-3)

               Maritime (0-3)

 

Inside the Numbers

Maritime

  • Senior captain Izabella Mackintosh led the Bucs attack with four kills in the match.
  • Freshman Gemma Geisler tallied three kills of her own in the loss.
  • Sophomore captain Shayla Narodowg racked up three service aces against the Beacons. Erin Donlan had two aces in the match.
  • Narodowg led the Bucs in assists with eight.
  • Audrey Manning led the team defensively with 10 digs. Marlo Stark had seven digs of her own.

UMass Boston

  • Paige Coulson led all players with nine kills. Taryn Broughal had seven for the Beacs.
  • Amelia Devlin tallied 26 assists in the victory.
  • Mye Perron had five service aces for UMB.
  • Defensively, Ally Dean picked up 15 digs and Perron had 11.

How It Happened

The Beacons jumped out to an early lead in the first set with the Bucs right on their tail. Midway through the first set, UMB found their stride and went on to win the set 25-12.

In the second set, the Buccaneers could not get anything going offensively and the Beacons won handily by a final of 25-6.

The third set went the way of Boston as well as they won the set 25-10 to take the match, 3-0.

 

Match Two

Final: AMCATS 3, Buccaneers 0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-23)

Records: Anna Maria (1-4)

               Maritime (0-4)

 

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Marlo Stark led Maritime with six kills in the match. Gemma Geisler tallied four for the visitors with Izabella Mackintosh and Shayla Narodowg getting three kills each.
  • Narodowg once again led the Bucs in assists with a team-high 14 and was the team leading in service aces again with two against the 'Cats.
  • Audrey Manning and Stark each had 12 digs on the defensive end for the Buccaneers.
  • Chloe Johnson tallied the only solo block of the match for either team.
  • Sydney McCarthy and Narodowg combined for a block as well.

Anna Maria

  • Shay Savoie led all players in the match with 13 kills.
  • Julia Tarantino was the clubhouse leader in assists with 23.
  • Savoie led the match in service aces with eight and led the match defensively with 19 digs.

How It Happened

The Buccaneers came out flat in the first set against the AMCATS losing the set 25-9.

In set two, the Bucs put up 20 points including leading the set in team kills with nine to Anna Maria's seven and posted a hitting percentage of .161, their highest for a set this season. Ultimately, the AMCATS took a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 win in the second game.

The third set went to the AMCATS as they were able to get 14 kills from the offense. Though the Bucs got eight and posted another positive hitting percentage, cutting down on unforced errors, AMC won the third set by a close 25-23 final, and took the match, 3-0.

The Bucs are on the road for their next match on Tuesday, September 12th at 6pm in Milton, MA against the Curry Colonels.
