Buccaneers Lose Senior Night Showdown with Bears

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Friday evening marked Senior Night for the two seniors on the women's soccer roster, captain Shannon Elwood (Kingston, MA) and Hayley Caufield (Cheshire, MA). Two women who have exemplified what it means to be a student-athlete at the Academy on and off the field and within the Regiment of Cadets. Following the senior night ceremony, the Bears went on to beat the Bucs by a final of 5-0.

The Basics

Final: Bridgewater 5, Maritime 0 

Records: Bridgewater 6-6-1 (3-1-1 MASCAC)

            Maritime 2-9-2 (0-4-2 MASCAC)

For The Bucs

  • Maritime took three shots on goal, two from Bailey Musial (Pembroke, MA) and one from Ariel Damery (Plympton, MA).
  • Ally Reddish (Canton, MA) made her third start in goal for the Bucs, made six saves and allowed four goals. Jackie Damery (Plympton, MA) made her debut in net in the second half and made three saves on four shots, allowing one goal. 

For The Bears

  • Senior Samantha Tomaszewski scored twice in the win. Megan Keller scored her first career goal. Delaney Langton and Madelyn Morin rounded out the scoring for the Bears.
  • Erin Clancey and Cassie Brown were credited with assists in the game.
  • Goalkeeper Tory Viola-Laughery made three saves on three shots faced in the victory.

How It Happened

Bridgewater scored two goals early, in the third minute from Langton, unassisted, and in the fourth minute on Tomaszewski's first, also unassisted. Up 2-0, the Bears held the Bucs back from the offensive third and extended their lead to three goals in the 17th minute on Morin's goal from Brown. BSU scored once more in the first half to make it 4-0 when Tomaszewski scored her second on a pass from Clancey. 

In the second half, the Bears sat back and protected their lead. Though the Bucs had three good chances to get on the board they were unable to do so. In the 75th minute, Keller scored, unassisted from 20 yards away to seal the 5-0 victory for the Bears in conference over the Bucs.

What's Next

The Buccaneers will host Fisher college in non-conference play on Tuesday, October 26th at 7pm at Clean Harbors Stadium.
