Colonels Score Twice in Second Half to Beat the Bucs

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Maritime hosted Curry in a midweek non-conference game at Clean Harbors Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Bucs held back a good Curry team with stellar defense for all of the first half. In the second half, the Colonels attack broke through, scoring twice to take a 2-0 win back to Milton.

For The Bucs

  • Senior captain Shannon Elwood (Kingston, MA) and junior captain Julia Quindley (Plymouth, MA) each recorded a shot on goal.
  • Lindsy Durgin (Rochester, MA) made 15 saves in goal while allowing the two goals in the loss. Prior to the goal in the 47th minute, Durgin had gone 266 minutes without allowing a goal. 
  • Ally Reddish (Canton, MA) was credited with a defensive save on a ball that came her way from a corner late in the game.

For The Colonels

  • Abby Carew and Madison Frye were the goal scorers for Curry. Carew's game winner came in the 47th minute.
  • Frye tacked on an assist on the Carew goal.
  • Goalkeeper Stella Schofield made two saves on the two Maritime shots.

How It Happened

The Buccaneers sat back on defense waiting for their chance to strike in the first half. Curry kept the pressure on for the entire 45 minutes of the first half. They took 16 shots, seven of which were saves, the other nine were off target. Curry couldn't break the Buccaneers defense in the first half and the Bucs didn't get a chance to shoot. The teams remained scoreless at the half.

In the second half, the Colonels scored very early, two minutes in to the half, in the 47th minute, Frye delivered a ball in to the box that Carew was able to put in to the net to give her team a 1-0 lead. Still taking their shots, 24 in total in the second half, Curry kept the pressure on and didn't alow the Bucs to work the ball up the field. In the 63rd minute, Frye laid a ball on goal from 20 yards out the found the bottow left portion of the net to give Curry a 2-0 lead. Though the Bucs took two shots after the second Curry goal and had their oppotunities, the hosts were unable to get back in to the game with it finishing 2-0 in favor of the Colonels.
