Late Goals Costly for Bucs in Conference Loss

Salem, Ma – The Buccaneer women's soccer team traveled to Salem State for their second conference game of the season. After they drew with Fitchburg last weekend for a point in the standings, the Vikings scored two late goals to defeat the Bucs, 2-0.

  • Allie Vaillancourt scored the game winner and assisted on the second Salem goal.
  • Jasmine Moran scored the second Vike's goal and assisted on Vaillancourt's goal.
  • Goalkeeper Lily Pfefferle made 13 saves on 13 Buccaneer shots.

How It Happened

It was a quiet first half in terms of scoring for the Bucs and Vikes. While there were 15 shots total neither keeper was allowing anything to get by. Salem's goalie mad eight saves with Durgin making five for Maritime. The teams went to the break knotted at 0-0.

In the second half, it was another stalemate between the teams for nearly 20 minutes. Then, in the 64th minute, Vailancourt scored on a pass from Moran to make it 1-0 Vikings. Six minutes later in the 70th minute, Moran scored one of her own, on a pass from Vaillancourt, to make it 2-0 which went onto be the final score.

What's Next

The Bucs are on the road against next week to take on Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday, September 28th at 7pm. They will return home on Saturday, October 2nd for a Conference showdown with MCLA on Homecoming weekend at Mass Maritime. Kickoff of that game is 1pm.
