PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Buccaneers took to the road to take on Rhode Island College on Wednesday evening in a mid-week nonconference matchup. The Buccaneers fell behind early and couldn't make up ground losing 4-1 to the Anchorwomen.

For The Bucs

  • Junior captain Julia Quindley (Plymouth, MA) scored the only goal for the Bucs, her second of the season.
  • Maritime had three shots, all on target in the game with two from Quindley and one from Taylor Blanton (Auburn, MA)
  • Goalkeeper Lindsy Durgin (Rochester, MA) faced 15 shots making 11 saves and allowing four goals.

For the Anchorwomen

  • Three players scored for Rhode Island in the game, Gabrielle McGowanSerena Forte, and Alexandra Amore.
  • McGowan, Rebecca TomaoJayde Fernandes, and Tess Dugan were credited with assists.
  • The first Anchorwomen goal was credited as an own goal by the Bucs.
  • Goalkeeper Reagan Kerecz made two saves and allowed the Buc goal on three shots faced.

How It Happened

In the third minute, on an own goal by the Bucs, the Anchorwomen took a very early 1-0 lead in the game. Seven minutes later, in the 10th minute, RIC extended their lead on McGowan's second goal of the season making it 2-0. The hosts had 23 shots in the first half to the Buccaneers two. Durgin made eight saves in the first half, one shy of her career-high for an entire game. The game went to the half with the Bucs trailing 2-0.

In the second half, the Buccaneers cut the deficit in half in the 62nd minute on Quindley's second goal of the 2021 season. Being the only shot of the second half for Maritime, the Bucs would not find the goal again. Rhode Island did go on to score in the 76th and 88th minutes to extend their lead to 4-0, the final score of the match.
