Buccaneers Shutout by League-Leading Owls on the Road

WESTFIELD, Mass -- The Buccaneers faced a tall task on Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Westfield to take on the MASCAC leaders in a conference matchup. Westfield remained at the top of the league at the end of the day with a 7-0 win over the Bucs.

The Basics

Score: Westfield 7, Maritime 0

Records: Westfield 8-4-1 (4-0 MASCAC)

            Maritime 2-5-2 (0-2-2 MASCAC)

For The Bucs

  • Freshman Taylor Blanton (Auburn, MA) recorded two shots, both on target, for the Bucs. Ariel Damery (Plympton, MA) tallied one shot, not on goal.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Lindsy Durgin (Rochester, MA) made 12 saves on 19 shots and allowed the seven goal. 

For The Owls

  • Reigning MASCAC Player and Rookie of the Week Delaney Parker scored twice and added an assist. Five other Owls, Amanda JohnsonRiley LoweJaida CochranBella Parrotte, and Kaitlyn Wernik scored in the win.
  • Jenn Rennich recorded two assists in the game. Parker, Cochran, Kylee Murphy, and Jenna Hurlburt each had an assist.
  • Goalkeeper Lauryn Davis face no shots in the win. Michaella Moncecchi made tow saves on the two shots from Blanton.

How It Happened

The very strong Westfield squad controlled the game from the start, scoring in the third minute on Parkers first of the game, 18th of the season. Westfield followed up the third minute goal with four more in the first half. The Buccaneers were unable to record a shot in the first 45 minutes. Durgin was tasked with 10 shots and made five saves. After 45 minute of play, the Owls led 5-0.

In the second half, the Buccaneer defense played well, holding the Owls to two goals on 20 shots with Durgin making eight saves. Blanton took two shots on target in the second half but could not find the back of the net. The Owls earned their fourth conference win with the 7-0 victory.

The Buccaneers travel to Paxton, MA to take on the Anna Maria College AMCATS on monday evening at 6pm.
