Women's Track & Field Fares Well in Fitchburg

FITCHBURG, MA -- Bucs women's track & field took part in the Jim Sheehan Invitational at Fitchburg State on Saturday, their second in as many days. Though bad weather kept a few events from happening, that didn't stop the Buccaneers from breaking records and making history.

Lily Hakkarainen finished sixth overall in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:37.97, a new record in the event. Hakkarainen's time was three seconds better than that of the previous record holder, Alyssa Grieco, who has set the new record in the event on Friday at Regis College.

Cam Boyce finished fifth in the 300 meter steeplechase with a time of 13:58.48.

For the first time ever, Maritime fielded a team in the women's 4x800 relay. Boyce, Hakkarainen, Grieco and Sophia Strano made history by setting a new program record with a time of 12:02.6 and finished second in the event.

The Bucs are at Connecticut College next Friday and Saturday, April 15th & 16th for the Silfen Invitational.
