Men's Track & Field: Buccaneers Finish Second with Four First Place Event Finishes

WESTON, MA -- The buccaneer men's track & field team, who have a history of strong performances at the Regis Spring Classic, did not disappoint this year with a second place finish and four first place event finishes, including first place finished in the shot put and discus for Gerry Mackin.

Anthony Childs took home first place in the 200 meter dash with a final time of 22.85, .59 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. 

In the 800 meter run, Alec Goldenberg finished second with a time of 2:03.49, just two seconds behind the first place finisher.

The Bucs 4x100 relay team of Demetri BoozerZach CochranJa'iel Johnson and Childs finished second behind Lasell with a time of 46.70 seconds.

Mackin went on to win the shot put and the discus with winning throws of 13.25 meters in the shot put and 37.39 meters in the discus. The Bucs controlled the shot put event with five of the top six finishers, including Liam HigginsJosh RousseauJordan Escabi, and Luke Dawson. In the discus, Mackin's 37.39 meter toss was 1.02 meters better than the second place finisher from Suffolk. Maritime controlled four of the top six spots in the discus as Rousseau finished third, Dawson finished fifth, and Liam Dow finished sixth.

In the hammer throw, Rousseau picked up second place with a throw of 37.54 meters. 

Maritime took home the gold and silver in the javelin throw as freshmen Joshua Christensen and Higgins finished first and second respectively with throws of 48.89 and 46.09 meters. 

The Buccaneers captured 106 points on the day, just three points back of winners and host Regis College.

Maritime is at the Jim Sheehan Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Fitchburg State. Live stats of the events can be found at mmabucs.com
