Men's Track Open Season at Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, MA -- Saturday morning, the Buccaneers took a trip up 495 to Bridgewater to take part in the BSU Bears Invitational, traditionally the first meet of the year for the Bucs. On the men's side of things, the Buccaneers did well and have a foundation to build on throughout the season.

In the 100 meter dash Ja'iel Johnson was the top finisher for Maritime in the 39th position. After running an 11.32 in the first heat, he ran a 12.15 in the finals. 

Taking part in the 200 yard dash, Anthony Childs, who set the program record in the 200 last year, finished with an identical time, 22.57 seconds, to his record setting time last season. 

In the 400 meter dash, Sean Donohue crossed in 13th place with a time of 55.96 seconds, beating his heat time by .38 seconds. 

In the distance runs, Peter Laird was the top Buccaneer finisher in the 800 meter run, 17th place overall, coming in at 2:18.00. 

In the high jump, Steven Westgate came in eighth over out of 20 competitors clearing 1.80 meters. Westgate also competed in the long jump finishing in 17th with a jump of 5.77 meters.

The Bucs, a team always strong in the shot put, saw Gerard Mackin finish fifth with a finals toss of 13.71 meters. Less than a meter shots of the winner of the event from Babson.

In the hammer throw, Chris Chaisson finished in 12th with a finals toss of 36.25 meters. 

In an event the Bucs have been up and coming in for a few years now, Joshua Christensen finished fifth in the javelin throw. His final throw measured in at 51.13 meters. 

The Buccaneers will take part in the Corsair Classic next week, Saturday, April 2nd, at UMass Dartmouth.
