Maritime Drops Conference Matchup with Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Mass -- Maritime played Bridgewater State in their second to last conference game of the season on Friday afternoon at Swenson Field in Bridgewater. The Bucs, looking to pick up a spot in the MASCAC Playoffs intwo weeks, were un able to score in a 5-0 loss to the Bears. The Bucs are still alove in the playoff hunt with a game left to play against Worcester next week at home and can get some help from other teams as well in the standings.

For The Bucs

  • CJ Vincent (Carver, MA) took four shots for the Bucs with two on target. Ty Chafa (Quincy, MA) took four shots as well with one on target. 
  • All totaled, Maritime took 22 total shots with 10 on target. 
  • Senior goalkeeper John Murphy (Braintree, MA) made 10 saves on 15 shots and allowed the five goals.

For The Bears

  • David Nelson scored twice for the Bears in the win. Brett GhelfiEthan Lafontant, and Will Halben were the other goal scorers for the hosts.
  • Kevin Roberts was credited with three assists. Robson Montrond also picked up an assist for BSU.
  • Goalkeeper Wilaim Russell made nine saves and was credited with the win in 85 minutes on the field. 

How It Happened

Bridgewater scored three first-half goals; the first came in the 10th minute on Nelson's first, assisted by Roberts. Nearly 30 minutes passed in between the first and second Bridgewater goals. During that period, the Bucs attacked, taking 13 shots total in the first 45 minutes of play, unable to get on the board. In the 39th minute, Lafontant scored, unassisted, to make it 2-0 Bears. In the 45th minute, Halben netted his goal, unassisted, to extend the lead to three goals. The 3-0 Bears lead was the score at the half.

In the second half, the Bucs pushed early, looking to get on the board and cut the deficit. In the 59th minute, Bridgewater made their lead four on Nelson's second goal of the day. That 4-0 lead went deep in to the game and was extended to 5-0, the eventual final score, in the 89th minue on Ghelfi's goal, assisted by Roberts.

The Buccaneers will host Rivier University at Clean Harbors Stadium on Monday, October 25th at 7pm in their final non-conference game of the season.
