How It Happened

Maritime opened the scoring relatively early in the 11th minute on a Chafa header past Kinsella on a well placed free kick from Tannian from the sideline. Tannians kick made it all the way across the 18, just outside the six yard box and Chafa put it in the net to give the Bucs a 1-0 advantage. There were 10 more shots between the teams and neither could find the back of the net. The game went to the half 1-0 with the excitement yet to come.

In the second half, the goalfest began when the Mariners leveled the game early on in the 48th minute on Ramos's goal on a pass from Leuchner, making the score 1-1. Five minutes later, Mitchell was awarded a penalty on a hard challenge by Maritime in the six yard box. Ghirardi put it home in the bottom righthand corner to give the Mariners a 2-1 lead. Then, in the 55th minute, the Buccaneers started their comeback. After being awarded a free kick from 20 yards out, Vanti stepped up with his left foot and from a deflection off of a Mitchell defender, the ball found its way past Kinsella who was tracking the shot to the left of the net and had no opporunity to get back to the ball. The Bucs had tied the game at 2-2. Just five minutes late, in the 61st minute, by a second, Vanti delivered a corner kick in to the box. Tannian received the ball at the far post, passed the ball in front of the net to a waiting Lutz who buried the ball in the back of the net to give the Bucs a 3-2 lead. The Lutz goal, the fourth scored in the first 15 minutes of the half, would prove to be the game winner. The Bucs added an insurance goal in the 86th minute to seal the game. McInerney took a free kick from nearly midfield. The ball bounced around inside the box then found the foot of Somers. McNeill tapped the ball in to the net to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Bucs. The Mariners puched back but couldn't get anything else on the board and the Bucs won by the 4-2 score.
