Buccaneers Can't Hold off Bears on the Road

New London, Conn. -- In their second to last away game and second to last non-conference games of the season, the Bucs took to the road to take on Coast Guard. The Bears got the best of the Bucs, 4-0.

For The Bucs

  • The Bucs took six shots in the game, three on target; Nicholas Vanti (East Longmeadow, MA), Ethan Somers (Boston, MA), and TJ McCabe (Canton, MA) took two shots each, one of target apiece.
  • Starting goalkeeper John Murphy (Braintree, MA) made 14 saves on 17 shots, allowing three goals in the loss. Jordi Bazan came in in relief of Murphy late in the second half and made one save and allowed a goal on two shots faced.

For The Bears

  • CGA had four different goalscorers, Robbie FugettMike DauntBrennan King, and Brendan Ahl.
  • The Bears also had four players record assists, Gabriel GallantJohn FloodNoah Engstrom, and Jude Sargent.
  • Josh Hudson started in goal for the Bears and made three saves on three shots faced in the win.

How It Happened

The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first 24 minutes. Then, in the 25th minute, Fugett headed the ball in to the net on a cross from Gallant. The Bucs pushed and had their chances and could not capitalize. Coast Guard took 16 additional shots in the first and also could not extend their lead. The score went to the half 1-0 in favor of the hsots.

In the second half, The Bears defense held the Bucs to two shots. In the 56th minute Daunt scored on a ball from flood to extend the lead to 2-0. 15 minutes late King scored, from Sargent. In the 81st minute Ahl scored the final goal of the game sealing the 4-0 win for Coast Guard.

Maritime will play Bridgewater State on Friday at 3:30pm in conference play in Bridgewater.
