BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Maritime men's soccer hosted Westfield State in a MASCAC game on Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium. The Buccaneers attacked most of the game and were unable to score. The Owls made the most of their clearest chance of the game taking a 1-0 lead in the first that they never looked back on to pick up their first conference win of 2021.

For The Bucs

• CJ Vincent (Carver, MA) led the Bucs offensively with four shots, two on target. Jake McInerney (Hanover, MA) also had two shots on target including a great free kick that was turned away by the Westfield keeper.
• Goalkeeper John Murphy (Braintree, MA) made three saves on four shots and allowed the goal.
• The Buccaneers took 20 total shots in the game with nine on target. 

For The Owls

• Nick Brown scored the game winner in the 25th minute.
• Ryan Cassidy assisted on the goal.
• Goalkeeper Emilio Mancuso made nine saves in the win.
• Westfield took eight shots, four on target in the game.

How It Happened

The Buccaneers attacked fro mthe start. Pushing the Owls back for most of the 24 minutes before the Owls scored. Then, in the 25th minute, the Owls found a break on an arrent back pass from the Bucs that went to Cassidy on the outside. He delivered the ball in to the box for Brown who chipped the shot over the head of Murphy for the goal. The Bucs continued to put on the pressure with 14 total shots in the first half but were not able to tie the game which went to the half 1-0 Westfield.

The Bucs shot production dropped to six in the second half though they kept the pressure on making the best of their opportunities, unable to score. Westfield attempted to add to their lead but both defenses worked hard to keep the score as it was. Unable to come back, the Bucs fell 1-0 to the Owls, the first MASCAC win of the season for Westfield.
