How It Happened

With 18 shots between the teams in total, six on target, both teams took their chances in the low-scoring affair in Milton on Wednesday afternoon. In the first half, the Bucs outshot the Colonels overall, 4-3, though Maritime was unable to put the ball on goal, Hardy did make a save on a Curry shot to keep them off the board in the first 45. It was a physical first half on both sides with seven total fouls, five from Curry, and two from the Bucs, a theme that would continue in to the second half of play after a scoreless first.

In the second half, the tempo picked up, so did the chances and so did the physicality. Curry outshot the Bucs in the second half, 7-4. Hardy made three saves with Robitaille making a save on the lone shot on goal from the Bucs. The foul total from the first half more than tripled with Curry committing 14 fouls, including the two yellows, Maritime committing nine, including the yellow to Somers. The physical defensive battle made it nearly impossible for either team to find the back of the net until the Colonels broke through with seconds remaining in regulation. McGonigle netted his first goal of 2021, sneaking a ball past Hardy to give him team a lead and ultimately the win in the waning moments of the midweek contest. The game ended 1-0 in favor of the hosts.

With the win, the Colonels pick up their first victory of the season to improve to 1-1-1 while the Bucs fall to 0-3.
