McLean Nets Hat Trick, Klose Makes 15 Saves As Men's Lacrosse Drops NEWMAC Decision At Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --  Junior Brendan Boss (West Springfield, Mass.) netted four goals and added a pair of assists for six points, while senior Dylan Sheehan (Massapequa, N.Y.) added a hat trick and five assists for a game-high eight points to lead Springfield to a 20-7 New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.

 

The host Pride (4-6, 1-1 NEWMAC) scored the first nine goals of the contest, including three by Boss, to jump to a 12-1 advantage after the opening 15 minutes of play en route to an 18-2 lead at the break.  Junior Kevin Dean (Westhampton, N.Y.) added a hat trick and an assist for four points for Springfield, which also received a pair of tallies and two helpers from senior Kevin Sainte (Lexington, Mass.).  Senior Jamey Conley (Waltham, Mass.) chipped in with a pair of markers for the winners, who also received goals from senior Bryce Serriello (Barnstable, Mass.), juniors Jesse Freedman (Granby, Conn.) and Ben Menard (South Hadley, Mass.), sophomore Dom Abate (Beverly, Mass.) and freshmen Duncan Preston (South Portland, Maine) and Tom Hurley (Goffstown, N.H.).  Junior Tony LaGuerre (Shrub Oak, N.Y.), sophomores Matthew LaCroix (Westfield, Mass.) and Brendan Dooley (Setauket, N.Y.), along with freshman Kyle Dillon (Mahopac, N.Y.), notched assists for the Pride, who have won 58 of their last 59 conference matches in both Pilgrim League and NEWMAC play.

 

Junior Reed McLean (Wilbraham, Mass.) netted a hat trick in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (6-4, 1-1 NEWMAC), which also received a goal and an assist from sophomore Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.).  Juniors Anthony Kurylak (Exeter, N.H.) and Sean Staples (Norwell, Mass.) also tallied for Massachusetts Maritime, which received a marker from sophomore Steven Anderson (Crownsville, Md.) as well as single assists off the sticks of senior Dylan Freudenberg (Islip, N.Y.) and sophomores Joseph Landy (Chatham, N.J.) and Kevin Collins (Hampden, Mass.).

 

Sophomore Chris Santaniello (West Springfield, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with four first half saves for Springfield, which also received two stops each from juniors Kevin Ostrom (Barnstable, Mass.) and Doug Sattler (South Hadley, Mass.) after intermission.  Junior James Klose (Ellicott City, Md.) made 15 saves in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Pride outshot the Buccaneers by a 60-19 margin overall (35-15 on goal) while holding a 26-4 advantage in the face-off circle for the contest.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to North Dartmouth, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on UMass Dartmouth in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Springfield travels to Middlebury, Vt. on Wednesday afternoon to square off with Middlebury in a non-league match beginning at 4:30 p.m.
