BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Nick Morello (North Billerica, Mass.) netted four goals, while sophomore Nicco Sorrentino (Chelmsford, Mass.) added a hat trick and four assists for seven points to lead Plymouth State to a 19-4 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

 

Senior Aaron Boss (Keene, N.H.) scored a pair of first quarter goals that helped stake the visiting Panthers (4-1) to an early 4-0 lead, and Plymouth State extended that margin to 7-2 at the break before Morello and sophomore Colin Claflin (Pembroke, Mass.) each netted a pair of tallies in the opening 7:18 after intermission to give the visitors an 11-2 cushion.  The Panthers iced their triumph with six unanswered markers in the final stanza, including two off the stick of Sorrentino, to run their winning streak to three straight.

 

Boss added a hat trick and an assist to finish with four points in the win for Plymouth State, which also received a pair of goals and four helpers from junior Phil Pichel (Hopkinton, Mass.) to go with a pair of markers and two assists from senior Mike Trocchi (Danvers, Mass.).  Senior C.J. Frates (Merrimack, N.H.) chipped in with a goal and assist as well for the Panthers, who also received tallies from sophomore Alex Croatti (Brunswick, Maine) and freshman Cole Martin (Webster, N.H.) as well as an assist off the stick of sophomore Pete Allen (Newbury, N.H.).

 

Junior Anthony Kurylak (Exeter, N.H.) netted a pair of goals in the setback for the host Buccaneers (4-1), who saw their season-opening four-match win streak come to an end.  Junior Reed McLean (Wilbraham, Mass.) and freshman Paul Frost (Tiverton, R.I.) also tallied for Massachusetts Maritime, which received an assist off the stick of freshman Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.).

 

Senior Chris St. George (Marblehead, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Plymouth State with five saves over the first three quarters of play, as senior Zach Taylor (Littleton, Mass.) made four stops in the final stanza for the visitors.  Sophomore Jacob Brennan (North Reading, Mass.) made 11 saves in 55-plus minutes of action in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Panthers outshot the Buccaneers by a 41-23 margin and forced 31 turnovers for the contest.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads up to Boston on Thursday evening to take on Wentworth in a non-league match that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Plymouth State will be idle until Saturday, March 28th when the Panthers head to Danbury, Conn. to open Little East Conference play against Western Connecticut beginning at Noon.
