Bartley Nets Pair Of Goals, Klose Makes Career High 20 Saves As Men's Lacrosse Drops NEWMAC Decision At Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. --  Senior Kyle Barsalou (Longmeadow, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and three assists for five points to lead Babson to an 18-7 New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday morning at MacDowell Field.

 

The host Beavers (6-6, 3-0 NEWMAC) jumped out to a 5-0 first quarter lead on the strength of a pair of tallies from sophomore Matthew Logan (Downingtown, Pa.), and Babson extended that margin to a 8-1 at the break with three unanswered goals, including two off the stick of Barsalou, over the final 4:46 of the half.  After the hosts scored twice in the opening 2:57 after intermission, the visiting Buccaneers (6-6, 1-2 NEWMAC) netted four of the next five markers, including a pair off the stick of freshman Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.), to pull back to within 11-5, but the Beavers pulled away by scoring six times in the final frame to ice their triumph.

 

Junior John Harrison (Pembroke, Mass.) notched a hat trick in the win for Babson, while Logan chipped in with a pair of tallies and two assists to finish with four points.  Sophomore Brennen Walker (Scituate, Mass.) and freshman Axel Brown (Little Compton, R.I.) added two goals each for the Beavers, who also received a pair of markers from junior Scott Doten (Western Springs, Ill.) to go with a tally and two helpers from junior Brendan Coan (Towson, Md.).  Freshman Taylor Segreti (Potomac, Md.) collected a goal and an assist as well for the hosts, who also received single markers from junior Spencer Low (Natick, Mass.) and sophomore John Higgins (Duxbury, Mass.) as well as an assist off the stick of freshman Austin Fabel (East Rockaway, N.Y.).

 

Senior Dylan Freudenberg (Islip, N.Y.) notched a goal and an assist in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received tallies from junior Anthony Kurylak (Exeter, N.H.), sophomores Joseph Landy (Chatham, N.J.) and Conor Greaney (Milton, Mass.) as well as freshman Robert Steinweg (Arnold, Md.).  Junior Nick Foley (Kingston, Mass.) and sophomore Kevin Collins (Hampden, Mass.) chipped in with assists on the day for the Buccaneers.

 

Freshman Jordan Shapiro (Pleasantville, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal with a seven save effort over the first 47-plus minutes of play for Babson, which received four stops from sophomore Grant Masingill (Victor, N.Y.).  Junior James Klose (Ellicott City, Md.) made a career-high 20 saves in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Beavers outshot the Buccaneers by a 63-27 margin overall (38-18 on goal) for the contest.

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Clark in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference outing on Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Babson entertains Wheaton in a NEWMAC match on Wednesday evening at MacDowell Field that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
