FINAL:                   MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 15, ALBERTUS MAGNUS 10

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Anthony Kurylak (Exeter, N.H.) netted a career-high six goals to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 15-10 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Albertus Magnus Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Junior Reed McLean’s (Wilbraham, Mass.) hat trick in the opening 9:49 of play helped stake the Buccaneers to early leads of 4-0 and 5-1, but the visiting Falcons (0-2) closed back to within a pair on markers off the sticks of junior Mike Choiniere (Bethany, Conn.) and sophomore Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.) just 1:49 apart early in the second stanza.  After the teams traded goals in the final 30 seconds of the half, Massachusetts Maritime struck for three tallies in 48 seconds shortly after intermission, including a pair of goals by sophomore Steven Anderson (Crownsville, Md.), to take a 9-4 advantage, as the Buccaneers netted six of the nine goals scored in the third quarter.  Kurylak collected a pair of tallies in the opening 6:22 of the final stanza to give the hosts their largest lead (14-7) of the day, as he notched a hat trick in the fourth quarter alone to offset two more Choiniere goals in the final 7:44 of action and account for the final score.

Senior Dylan Freudenberg (Islip, N.Y.) added two goals in the triumph for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a marker and helper from sophomore Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.), a single tally off the stick of sophomore Kevin Collins (Hampden, Mass.) and an assist each from sophomore Joseph Landy (Chatham, N.J.) and freshman Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.).  Choiniere finished with a game-high seven goals in the setback for Albertus Magnus, which also received a marker and helper each from Buck and sophomore Dalton Sargent (Augusta, Maine).  Freshman Paul Mirmina (Milford, Conn.) accounted for the other tally of the night for the Falcons, who also received an assist from freshman Greg Shawinsky (Milford, Conn.).

Junior James Klose (Ellicott City, Md.) picked up the win in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a career-high 13-save effort, while freshman Jack Kerner (Merrick, N.Y.) made 22 stops in his second career start in goal for Albertus Magnus.  The Buccaneers outshot the Falcons by a 62-27 margin overall (37-23 on goal) and forced 29 turnovers by the visitors for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Throggs Neck, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon to begin defense of the Maritime Cup in the second annual event hosted by SUNY-Maritime, as the Buccaneers will clash with rival Maine Maritime in the Admiral’s Cup opening round contest at Reinhart Field beginning at 2:00 p.m.  Albertus Magnus travels to Northfield, Vt. on Saturday afternoon to take on Norwich in its Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener that begins at 1:00.
