FINAL:              SALEM STATE 12, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 6

SALEM, Mass. --  Junior Zach Brown (Peabody, Mass.) netted four goals to lead Salem State to a 12-6 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Alumni Field.

The host Vikings (4-2) snapped a 3-3 second quarter tie with four unanswered goals over the final 11:18 of the half to take a 7-3 advantage at the break, and Brown extended that margin to 8-3 by completing a hat trick 47 seconds after intermission.  Markers by senior Dylan Freudenberg (Islip, N.Y.) and sophomore Steven Anderson (Crownsville, Md.) in a 4:19 span enabled the visiting Buccaneers (5-3) to close back to within three at 8-5, and after the two teams traded scores, Salem State iced its triumph with three more unanswered tallies over the final 20:27 of the contest, as freshman Charlie Bourgeois (Billerica, Mass.) notched a goal and an assist over that time while the hosts kept the visitors scoreless.

Junior Alex Pearsons (Burlington, Mass.) added a hat trick and an assist in the triumph for the Vikings, who also received a pair of goals from freshman Craig Denehy (Salem, Mass.) as well as a marker and helper off the stick of junior Bobby Bourgeois (Billerica, Mass.).  Junior Dominic Rovetto (Newbury, Mass.) also tallied for Salem State, which received single assists from seniors Ian Abrahamson (Billerica, Mass.), Andy Rice (Weymouth, Mass.) and Max Gansenberg (Beverly, Mass.) as well as sophomore Steve Hanley (Waltham, Mass.).

Anderson added an assist to go with his two goals to finish with three points in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of tallies from junior Anthony Kurylak (Exeter, N.H.) as well as a marker off the stick of junior Reed McLean (Wilbraham, Mass.).  Senior Dylan Svenson (Billerica, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Salem State with a 10-save effort, while junior James Klose (Ellicott City, Md.) made 11 stops in the setback for the Buccaneers as the Vikings outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 38-27 margin (23-16 on goal) while forcing 17 turnovers for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Emerson in the New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Salem State heads into Boston on Saturday afternoon to take on UMass Boston in the Little East Conference lid-lifter for both squads that also begins at 1:00 p.m.
