NEW LONDON, Conn. --  Junior Louis DePaolis (Westchester, N.Y.) netted a hat trick and an assist for four points to lead Coast Guard to a 14-5 New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Cadet Memorial Field.

The host Bears (4-9, 2-4 NEWMAC) raced out to a 5-0 lead just 8:04 into the contest before the visiting Buccaneers (6-9, 1-5 NEWMAC) responded with four unanswered tallies of their own, including two off the stick of freshman Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.), to close back to within one with 2:15 to play in the half.  Sophomore Blaise Curtis (Riverside, Md.) extended Coast Guard’s lead to 6-4 at the break with a tally that came with 1:11 remaining before intermission, and the Bears took control of the contest by netting all five third quarter markers (including two by DePaolis) as part of a six-goal run to ice their triumph in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Sophomore Quinn Hathcock (Yarmouth, Maine) joined DePaolis with a hat trick in the win for Coast Guard, which also received a pair of goals and an assist from Curtis as well as two tallies from freshman Matt Huemme (Sherborn, Mass.).  Senior Pat Dreiss (Wantagh, N.Y.) and junior Justin Huemme (Sherborn, Mass.) each chipped in with a marker and helper for the Bears, who also received goals from junior Robert McKenna (Chesapeake, Va.) and freshman Alec Groff (Willow Street, Pa.) as well as an assist off the stick of senior Nick Chicoine (Massapequa, N.Y.).

Junior Anthony Kurylak (Exeter, N.H.), sophomore Joseph Landy (Chatham, N.J.) and freshman Robert Steinweg (Arnold, Md.) added goals in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received an assist from sophomore Conor Greaney (Milton, Mass.).  Freshman Kurt Caminske (Sayville, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for Coast Guard with an eight-save effort, while junior James Klose (Ellicott City, Md.) made 11 stops in net for the Buccaneers as the Bears outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 43-30 margin for the match.
