CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --  Freshman Jay Sousa (Dartmouth, Mass.) netted a career-high five goals, while senior Will Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) added a marker and three assists for four points to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 17-0 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Wheelock Thursday afternoon at Hedley Field.

The visiting Buccaneers (6-7) raced out to a 9-0 advantage in the opening 15 minutes of action en route to an 11-0 lead at the break, as sophomore Todd Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) tallied twice and added a pair of assists to join Doucette with four points.  Freshman Colin Hecklinger (Salem, Conn.) added two goals and was a perfect 17-of-17 in face-offs on the day for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received two markers off the stick of sophomore Daniel Sibbald (Weymouth, Mass.) to go with a goal and assist from freshman John Forcier (Medford, Mass.).  Juniors James Burns (Duxbury, Mass.) and Jake Simpson (Scituate, Mass.), along with freshmen Patrick Coonan (Grafton, Mass.) and Mike Raskin (Westwood, Mass.), added tallies for the winners, who also received two assists from sophomore Chris Bergau (Merritt Island, Fla.) and a single helper from freshman Kyle Gavoni (Duxbury, Mass.).

Freshman Eric Kuehn (Norwell, Mass.) picked up his second victory and first career shutout with a pair of saves in goal for Massachusetts Maritime, while junior Mike Manning (Brookfield, N.H.) made 20 stops in the setback for the host Wildcats (0-8) as the Buccaneers outshot Wheelock by a 51-6 margin while holding an 18-4 advantage in face-offs for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on MIT in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League match that begins at 2:00 p.m., while Wheelock will be idle until next Thursday afternoon when the Wildcats host UMass Boston in a non-league outing at Hedley Field that begins at 3:30 p.m.
