PORTLAND, Maine --  Freshman Drew Prowse (Wakefield, Mass.) netted a career-high five goals and two assists for seven points to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 14-7 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Maine Maritime in the battle for the Admiral’s Cup Sunday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

The visiting Buccaneers (4-3), who have already matched their entire victory total of last season, jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, as a pair of goals by junior Dan Langley (Abington, Mass.) sandwiched a man-up marker by freshman Dylan Freudenberg (Islip, N.Y.) with 4:18 to play in the opening quarter.  After freshman Nicholas Betti (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) got the host Mariners (0-5) on the board just over a minute later, tallies by senior Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.) and junior John Hojnoski (West Springfield, Mass.) in the last 55 seconds of the first stanza staked Massachusetts Maritime to a 5-1 advantage, as the two squads traded goals in the second quarter for a 6-2 Buccaneer edge at the break.

Maine Maritime closed its deficit to 7-4 by scoring two of the first three markers in the opening 5:49 after intermission, but freshman Adam Palilonis (Hightstown, N.J.) started a six-goal Massachusetts Maritime run just over a minute later, as Prowse notched four straight tallies, including three in the final 1:31 of the third quarter and a man-down marker to start to the final stanza.  Freudenberg’s second man-up goal of the day with 10:58 to play capped the run and gave the Buccaneers a 13-4 lead, as after the Mariners netted three unanswered markers, including the second of the day by senior Andrew DiSalvo (Glastonbury, Conn.) with 3:49 remaining, sophomore Daniel Sibbald Weymouth, Mass.) iced the visitors’ triumph and closed out the scoring with 28 seconds to play.

Palilonis added a pair of goals and three assists for a career-best five points in the victory for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of assists from Hojnoski.  Freudenberg added an assist to finish with three points as well for the Buccaneers, who also received a helper from Bickley as part of a two-point afternoon.  DiSalvo added two assists to finish with his two goals for a four-point effort in the setback for Maine Maritime, which also received a marker and helper from senior Brian Corain (Berwick, Maine) as well as single tallies off the sticks of senior Ryan Williams (Cumberland, Maine), junior Tom Houle (Manchester, N.H.) and freshman Bronson Guimond (Portland, Maine).

Sophomore Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a career-high 18 saves, while sophomore Gavin Cote (Arundel, Maine) made 10 stops in the setback for Maine Maritime as the Buccaneers outshot the Mariners by a 40-36 margin while holding a 15-8 edge in face-offs.  The victory marked the first time in school history that Massachusetts Maritime has defeated both Maine Maritime and SUNY-Maritime in the same season.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Salem State in a non-league outing on Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Maine Maritime heads to Waterville, Maine on Saturday afternoon to take on Thomas in a North Atlantic Conference match that begins at 1:00 p.m.
