BABSON PARK, Mass. --  Junior Alex Patinkin (Providence, R.I.) netted four goals and three assists for seven points to lead Babson to a 21-1 victory over Massachusetts Maritime in the Pilgrim Lacrosse League opener for both schools Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field.

The host Beavers (5-3, 1-0 Pilgrim) scored eight times in the opening quarter en route to a 14-0 lead at the break, as senior Tom Mallon (Manhasset, N.Y.) and freshman Phil Russo (Middleton, Mass.) added four and three tallies, respectively, on the day for Babson.  Sophomore Brad Bero (Carlisle, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and an assist for the hosts, who also received two markers from senior Scott Schachter (Rumford, R.I.) as well as a goal and assist from junior Mike Griffin (Duxbury, Mass.).  Seniors Jamie Schmidt (Shelburne, Vt.) and Paul Grip (Shrewsbury, Mass.), along with sophomores Mike McStravock (Windham, N.H.) and Brett Rosen (Kinnelon, N.J.) as well as freshman Brian Lawler (Wilbraham, Mass.), each tallied on the day for the Beavers, who received two assists each from senior Cam Caruso (St. Charles, Ill.) and sophomore Bobby MacCune (Braintree, Mass.) as well as single helpers off the sticks of senior Jeff MacCune (Braintree, Mass.), sophomore Alex Packer (Hudson, Ohio) and freshman Alex Bunick (Millis, Mass.).

Sophomore Todd Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) netted the lone goal in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (5-4, 0-1 Pilgrim) on a feed from senior Peter Menard (Somerset, Mass.), as junior James Whalen (Westwood, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Babson with a pair of first half saves.  Sophomore Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) made 11 first half stops in net for Massachusetts Maritime, which saw its three-match winning streak come to an end, while freshman Eric Kuehn (Norwell, Mass.) made 15 second half saves for the visitors.  The Beavers outshot the Buccaneers by a 70-6 margin while holding a 22-4 edge in face-offs for the afternoon.

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until next Saturday morning when the Buccaneers travel to Worcester, Mass. to take on Clark in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League match that begins at 11:00 a.m., while Babson hosts Tufts in a non-league outing on Tuesday evening at MacDowell Field beginning at 7:00 p.m.
