BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshmen Dylan Freudenberg (Islip, N.Y.) and Drew Prowse (Wakefield, Mass.) each netted four goals to lead Massachusetts Maritime to its third straight victory with an 11-6 non-league college men’s lacrosse triumph over Salem State Wednesday evening at Clean Harbrors Stadium.

The host Buccaneers (5-3) snapped a 3-3 second quarter tie on senior Jake Bickley’s (Wilbraham, Mass.) marker with 3:09 to play in the half that gave Massachusetts Maritime a 4-3 advantage at the break, and the hosts tallied the first three goals after intermission, including back-to-back markers off the sticks of Freudenberg and fellow freshman Jay Sousa (Dartmouth, Mass.) in a 16 second span, to take a 7-3 cushion with 1:31 to play in the third stanza.  Senior Nate Arminio’s (Reston, Va.) goal just eight seconds later enabled the visiting Vikings (3-5) to close back to within three at 7-4 heading into the fourth quarter, and freshman Corey Davis (Wakefield, Mass.) sliced Salem State’s deficit to two with his second goal of the evening 4:19 into the final frame.  Freshman Adam Palilonis (Hightstown, N.J.) sparked a late Buccaneer run with a man-up marker that came with 4:40 to play in the match, and Prowse followed with his third of the night just nine seconds later to extend the lead back to four at 9-5.  Freshman Matt Whited’s (Falmouth, Mass.) goal with 3:08 to play again cut the Viking deficit to three, but Freudenberg and Prowse iced Massachusetts Maritime’s triumph with back-to-back goals in a seven second span to close out the scoring with just over two minutes remaining.

Freudenberg added a pair of assists to finish with six points in the victory for the Buccaneers, who are enjoying their longest winning skein in three years and have already surpassed their entire victory total of last season.  Bickley and Palilonis each collected two assists to finish with three points for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received helpers off the sticks of senior Will Doucette (Manchester, Mass.), junior Jake Lennon (Bourne, Mass.) and sophomore Thomas Flynn (Sandwich, Mass.).  Arminio, Whited and junior Jesse Fentross (Tewksbury, Mass.) each collected a goal and an assist in the setback for Salem State, which also received a marker from senior Ryan Gendreau (Danvers, Mass.) as well as three helpers off the stick of sophomore A.J. Robertson (Ipswich, Mass.).

Sophomore Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with an eight save effort, while freshman Nick Romeo (Salem, Mass.) and senior Kyle Tuneburg (Beverly, Mass.) combined for seven stops in net for Salem State as the Buccaneers outshot the Vikings by a 32-22 margin for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Babson Park, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Babson in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League match that begins at 3:00 p.m., while Salem State hosts Eastern Connecticut in a Little East Conference outing on Saturday afternoon in Salem, Mass. beginning at 1:00 p.m.
