WATERVILLE, Maine --  Junior John Hojnoski (West Springfield, Mass.) and sophomore Daniel Sibbald (Weymouth, Mass.) each netted hat tricks to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 12-4 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Thomas Saturday afternoon at Harold Alfond Stadium.

The visiting Buccaneers (1-0) scored the first six goals, including a pair off the stick of senior Will Doucette (Manchester, Mass.), to race out to a 6-0 advantage over the first 21-plus minutes of play in their season opener, but the host Terriers (0-3) sliced their deficit in half by tallying the final three markers before intermission to close to within 6-3 at the break.  Hojnoski scored two of Massachusetts Maritime’s four third quarter goals that helped extend the visitors lead to 10-4 after 45 minutes of action, and Sibbald added a pair of tallies in the last stanza to account for the final score.

Freshman Dylan Freudenberg (Islip, N.Y.) added a pair of tallies in the triumph for the Buccaneers, who also received a marker and helper from junior Dan Langley (Abington, Mass.).  Senior Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass.) accounted for the other goal of the afternoon for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received single assists off the sticks of senior Peter Menard (Somerset, Mass.) and freshman Drew Prowse (Wakefield, Mass.).  Sophomore Gunnar Shelton (Eugene, Ore.) netted a pair of goals in the setback for Thomas, which also received a marker and helper from sophomore Erik Tiner (Lewiston, Maine).  Freshman Matt Davis (Farmington, Maine) accounted for the other tally of the day for the Terriers, who also received an assist from junior Sean Machin (Brunswick, Maine).

Sophomore Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a seven-save effort, while junior Jesse Morkeski (Damariscotta, Maine) made 22 stops in net for Thomas as the Buccaneers outshot the Terriers by a 63-20 margin for the match while winning 16 of 19 faceoffs.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Bangor, Maine on Sunday afternoon to take on Husson in a non-league match that begins at Noon, while Thomas entertains Mount St. Vincent in a non-league outing on Wednesday evening at Harold Alfond Stadium beginning at 6:30 p.m.
