Sullo, Zurowski Named As MASCAC Baseball Player, Rookie Of The Week

Massachusetts Maritime sophomore catcher Logan Sullo and freshman pitcher Travis Zurowski were named as the respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon for their performances in a trio of Buccaneer contests last week.

Sullo, a native of Acushnet, Mass. and a graduate of Bishop Stang High School, batted .636 (7-11) with a double, two triples, two homers, three RBI and six runs scored for Head Coach Mike Kelley’s squad, including a double and triple in a 6-4 win over Becker last Tuesday afternoon and the game-winning solo homer in a 5-4 triumph over Newbury last Thursday.  Sullo, the reigning MASCAC Player and Rookie of the Year, posted a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.636 slugging percentage on the week, and he shared the MASCAC honor with Salem State senior Mike Davis.  Logan leads Massachusetts Maritime with a .378 batting average through 15 games, as he has rapped out nine extra base hits and driven in 10 runs while posting a .733 slugging percentage.

Zurowski, a native of Brooklyn, Conn. and a graduate of Killingly High School, earned his first career victory by tossing 6 1/3 innings of four-hit, one-run ball with a  pair of strikeouts in last Thursday’s win over Newbury.  In two appearances in his young career for the Buccaneers, Zurowski has scattered nine hits over 12 1/3 innings pitched while compiling a 2.19 earned run average to date.

Kelley's squad returns to action on Wednesday, April 6th when Massachusetts Maritime travels to New London, Conn. to take on rival Coast Guard in a non-league outing that begins at 3:30 p.m. EDT.
