FINAL:              GORDON 5, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 3

WENHAM, Mass. --  Sophomore Travis Benoit (Worcester, Mass.) rapped out three hits as Gordon plated a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to post a 5-3 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Thursday afternoon at J. Tec White Field.

The host Scots (8-5) grabbed a 2-0 second inning lead on a two-run double off the bat of junior Ryan Paulsen (Latham, N.Y.), and Gordon extended that margin to 3-0 in the fourth on a solo home run by Benoit (his first of the spring) over the left field fence.  The visiting Buccaneers (5-6) battled back with three unearned runs in the top of the fifth to even matters, as senior Everett Walsh (Marstons Mills, Mass.) laced a one-out double to right and scored on a fielding error before a two-run single off the bat of freshman Paul Sances (Middleboro, Mass.) knotted the score.  Gordon’s decisive rally took place with two outs in the seventh, as Paulsen singled and scored the go-ahead run on an error before sophomore Addison Tarr’s (Oxnard, Calif.) RBI single plated an insurance tally to account for the final score.

Paulsen, sophomore Matt Moffat (Stratford, Conn.) and freshman Christian Hodge (Waltham, Mass.) each collected two hits as part of an 11-hit attack in the win for the Scots, as junior Matt Amore (Pequannock, N.J.) improved to 4-0 on the mound for the hosts by scattering five hits and striking out 11 over the first six innings of action.  Sophomore Caleb Bae (Canyon Country, Calif.) worked around three hits and struck out a pair over the final three frames to earn his first save of the spring for Gordon, which extended its winning streak to four straight with the triumph.

Walsh and Sances each rapped out three hits as part of an eight-hit attack in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received singles from sophomores Logan Sullo (Acushnet, Mass.) and Connor Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) on the afternoon.  Senior Kyle Kennedy (Woodbury, Conn.) allowed a pair of unearned runs and fanned two in three innings of relief to fall to 1-1 on the season for the Buccaneers, as fellow senior Kevin Kwedor (Marshfield, Mass.) allowed five hits and one earned run while striking out four over the first five frames for the visitors.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Lynn, Mass. on Friday afternoon to square off with Fisher in a non-league outing beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Gordon hosts Rivier in a non-league contest on Tuesday afternoon at J. Tec White Field that also begins at 3:30 p.m.
