FINAL:              FISHER 4, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1

LYNN, Mass. --  Sophomore Reynaldo Moreta’s (Brighton, Mass.) two-run triple snapped a seventh inning tie and lifted Fisher to a 4-1 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Friday afternoon at Fraser Field.

The host Falcons (10-12) plated all three runs in the decisive seventh frame with two outs, as singles by seniors Nelson Lopez (Freehold, N.Y.) and Andres Ruiz (Queens, N.Y.) set the stage for Moreta’s game-winning three-bagger to right center.  Moreta scored Fisher’s final run of the contest on a throwing error, and the hosts escaped a bases-loaded jam in the top of the ninth to preserve their triumph.

Sophomore Logan Sullo (Acushnet, Mass.) staked the visiting Buccaneers (5-7) to a 1-0 third inning lead with an RBI single, but the Falcons evened matters in the bottom of the frame on a run-scoring single off the bat of junior Kyle Anulao (Peoria, Ariz.) to set the stage of Moreta’s seventh inning heroics.  Massachusetts Maritime had at least one runner on base in seven of the nine innings played on the day, as the Buccaneers stranded 13 total runners on the afternoon, including seven in their final three at-bats.

Sophomore Cody Mercier (Salem, Mass.) rapped out two of Fisher’s seven hits in the contest, as junior Bryan DeJesus (Irvington, N.J.) scattered five hits and struck out three over seven innings to earn his first victory of the spring.  Sophomore Matthew Trotta (Westford, Mass.) allowed hits and walked two over the final two innings for the Falcons, as he stranded all four base runners and struck out three to pick up his first save of the season.  Senior Greg Downs (Marshfield, Mass.) collected two of Massachusetts Maritime’s seven hits in the setback, as senior Alex Rozak (Plymouth, Mass.) allowed five hits and three earned runs over the first seven innings for the Buccaneers, as he struck out five in falling to 1-3 on the season.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Becker in a non-league outing on Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Fisher entertains Worcester State in a non-league twinbill tomorrow morning at Fraser Field that begins at 11:00 a.m.
