FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 7, EMERSON 0

BROCKTON, Mass. --  Senior Alex Rozak (Plymouth, Mass.) combined with two relievers on a four-hit shutout, while sophomore William Keane (Braintree, Mass.) and freshman Kevin Troy (Braintree, Mass.) each rapped out three hits to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 7-0 non-league college baseball victory over Emerson Sunday afternoon at Campanelli Stadium.

Keane plated the only run the visiting Buccaneers (5-5) would need in their first at-bat with an RBI single, and the visitors extended that margin to 2-0 in the third when senior Greg Downs (Marshfield, Mass.) drew a lead-off walk and later scored on a wild pitch.  Massachusetts Maritime added three more tallies in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Troy and a two-run double off the bat of junior Jake Petruzzelli (Abington, Mass.), and the visitors closed out their scoring with a pair of ninth inning runs that came on an RBI fielder’s choice by sophomore Nathan Anderson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Troy’s second RBI single of the afternoon to account for the final margin.

Petruzzelli and sophomore Casey Furnas (Boca Raton, Fla.) joined Keane and Troy in recording multiple-hit performances with two safeties in the triumph for the Buccaneers, who rapped out 11 hits and drew five walks in the contest.  Rozak scattered a pair of third inning singles and worked around two walks over the first six innings on the mound for Massachusetts Maritime, as fanned three and threw 50 of his 65 pitches for strikes to earn his first win in three decisions on the spring.  Sophomore Trevor Brown (Rehoboth, Mass.) and freshman Riley Fusaro (Nantucket, Mass.) tossed three scoreless frames in relief for the visitors, with Fusaro striking out a pair in the ninth inning.

Senior Jack Capotorto (Brielle, N.J.) suffered the setback on the mound for the host Lions (3-9), as he allowed six hits and three earned runs over the first six innings of play to fall to 0-3 on the season.  Four different Emerson players rapped out singles on the afternoon, as the hosts dropped their 14th decision to the Buccaneers in 15 all-time series meetings between the two schools.

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Wenham, Mass. on Thursday afternoon to take on Gordon in a non-league outing beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Emerson heads to Nashua, N.H. on Tuesday afternoon for a non-league contest with Daniel Webster that also begins at 3:30 p.m.
