FINAL:              SUFFOLK 12, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 4

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Luke Ronchi (Randolph, N.J.) and sophomore Seth Coiley (Arlington, Mass.) rapped out two hits and drove in three runs each to lead Suffolk to a 12-4 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Thursday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.

The visiting Rams (19-5), who have now won four straight and eight of nine overall with the triumph, sliced a 2-0 second inning deficit in half on Ronchi’s RBI single and took the lead for good with a four-run uprising in the third inning highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of senior Jon Lapolla (Providence, R.I.).  Suffolk extended its edge to 7-2 in the fourth on Coiley’s two-run single, but the host Buccaneers (12-9) crept back to within three with single runs in the bottom of the fourth on a throwing error and in the fifth on an RBI single by freshman Riley Fusaro (Nantucket, Mass.).  The Rams iced their 10th road win in 12 outings this spring with five runs over the final three frames, as a two-run double by freshman Jake Frasca (Darien, Conn.) in the seventh preceded an eighth inning wild pitch and Coiley sacrifice fly that extended the visitors’ edge to 11-4.  Senior Drew Carter (Newburyport, Mass.) led off the ninth for Suffolk with a double, and Ronchi accounted for the final score by plating him with an RBI groundout.

Lapolla and Carter also collected two hits each as part of a 12-hit attack for the Rams, who also received two hits and three runs from junior Sean Cameron (Milford, Conn.).  Sophomore Brady Chant (Warwick, R.I.) also scored three times in support of junior Tim Conroy (Arlington, Mass.), who allowed three earned runs and struck out five over seven innings of work to improve to 3-0 on the mound for Suffolk.

Senior Greg Downs (Marshfield, Mass.) rapped out three of Massachusetts Maritime’s 14 hits on the afternoon, as the hosts grabbed their 2-0 first inning advantage on a wild pitch and an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Logan Sullo (Acushnet, Mass.).  Fusaro, Sullo, senior Everett Walsh (Marstons Mills, Mass.), junior Jake Petruzzelli (Abington, Mass.) and freshman Paul Sances (Middleboro, Mass.) collected two hits each for the Buccaneers, who left 14 runners on base in seeing their six-game winning streak come to an end.  Sophomore Justin Nichols (Adams, Mass.) allowed four earned runs over the first three innings of work for Massachusetts Maritime, falling to 0-2 on the season with the setback.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Salem, Mass. on Saturday afternoon for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with Salem State that begins at Noon, as the Buccaneers and Vikings enter the twinbill tied atop the league standings at 4-0.  Suffolk hosts Rivier in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in East Boston, Mass. that also begins at Noon.
