Massachusetts Maritime senior right hander Kyle Kennedy has earned two additional honors for his efforts in helping the Buccaneer baseball team post five victories last week, as he was named as the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association’s Pitcher of the Week while also earning a spot on the D3baseball.com Division III National Team of the Week.

Kennedy, a native of Woodbury, Conn. and a graduate of Nonnewaug High School, posted a win and a pair of saves in three conference outings for Massachusetts Maritime en route to being named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon.  Kennedy earned the victory with two scoreless innings of relief in Sunday’s 5-4 come-from-behind nightcap triumph over Worcester State, and he saved both ends of Saturday’s 3-2, 2-1 twinbill sweep at Fitchburg State by retiring all nine batters he faced (three via strikeout).  Kyle tossed six scoreless frames in relief in a perfect 5-0 week for the Buccaneers, as he allowed two hits and fanned eight overall that included a shutout frame in last Wednesday’s 5-1 win at Coast Guard.

Kennedy has appeared in 11 games with one start to date for Head Coach Mike Kelley’s squad, as he is 2-1 overall with an 0.74 earned run average and three saves.  In 24 1/3 innings of work, he has allowed two earned runs and struck 27 (9.98 per nine innings) while holding opponents to a .200 batting average.  A CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree in the classroom last year, Kyle is a two-time all-MASCAC selection who sports a 12-6 career mark with 10 saves and a 1.72 earned run average in 54 total appearances.

Massachusetts Maritime, which stands at 12-8 overall on the season, brings a six-game winning streak into this week’s play, as Kelley’s crew returns to action Thursday afternoon by hosting Suffolk in a non-league outing at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:30 p.m. EDT.  The Buccaneers are off to their best start ever in league play (4-0) and are riding a school-record 10-game MASCAC winning streak that dates back to April 18, 2015, and that streak will be on the line Saturday when Massachusetts Maritime meets fellow conference co-leader Salem State in a road twinbill that begins at Noon EDT.
