The howling winds, bitter cold temperatures and forecast of an impending Nor’easter can only mean one thing around these parts.

Baseball season is right around the corner.

A new era beckons for the Buccaneers this spring, as Massachusetts Maritime Hall of Famer and longtime assistant coach Mike Kelley takes the reins of the program from the iconic Bob Corradi, who retired after 43 years on the diamond after last season.  Kelley, a 1999 graduate of the Academy, played an integral part in the Buccaneers’ first Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference championship in 33 years in 2015, and his squad is set to embark on a 35-game regular season schedule during his inaugural campaign as head coach.

Massachusetts Maritime will head to Fort Pierce, Fla. for its annual 10-day spring trip in mid-February that will include three games against Immaculata and Elizabethtown on February 27-28, and the Buccaneers are set to open their Northern slate on Saturday, March 12^th with a doubleheader at Johnson & Wales.  Kelley’s crew begins its home schedule on Tuesday, March 15^th by hosting Fisher at Commodore Hendy Field, as Massachusetts Maritime will play a total of 17 home games this spring that also includes non-conference dates with Wentworth, Clark, Thomas, Becker, Tufts, Newbury and Suffolk.

The Buccaneers will hit the road for seven total non-conference contests in 2016, as visits to WPI, Emerson, Gordon, Coast Guard and Fisher also dot the slate.  Kelley’s squad begins defense of its MASCAC crown on Saturday, April 2^nd by hosting Worcester State for a doubleheader, as MCLA and Westfield State will also venture to Taylor’s Point in April.  Massachusetts Maritime will hit the road for conference twinbills at Fitchburg State, Salem State, Framingham State and Bridgewater State during the month of April as well.
