NEWPORT, R.I. --  Sophomore Daniel Donohue’s (Westbury, N.Y.) RBI single capped a four-run seventh inning rally that lifted Salve Regina to an 8-7 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday afternoon at Brother Reynolds Field.

The host Seahawks (9-15) trailed 7-4 heading into the bottom of the stretch frame, but an RBI single by sophomore Nicholas Dell’Anno (Reading, Mass.) pulled Salve Regina to within a pair at 7-5 before a two-run safety off the bat of sophomore Anthony Conte (Georgetown, Mass.) evened matters and set up Donohue’s decisive hit.  The visiting Buccaneers (8-10) jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in their first at-bat on RBI singles by junior Zach Sullivan (Barnstable, Mass.) and freshman Bobby Rosano (North Reading, Mass.) that sandwiched a run-scoring double by junior Aram Mulhern (Taunton, Mass.), but the Seahawks closed their deficit to one in the second on a pair of RBI groundouts by Dell’Anno and freshman Sam Handy (East Greenwich, R.I.).

Massachusetts Maritime extended its edge to 5-2 in the third on a two-run homer by Mulhern, his first of the season, but Salve Regina again pulled to within a run with single tallies in the third on an RBI double by senior Nicholas Politelli (Warwick, R.I.) and in the fourth on Handy’s run-scoring single.  Sullivan restored the Buccaneers’ three-run advantage in the top of the seventh with a two-run homer of his own, his first of the spring, setting up the Seahawks’ deciding rally in the bottom of the inning.

Sophomore Dominic Di Sano (Central Falls, R.I.) rapped out three of Salve Regina’s 12 hits on the afternoon, as the Seahawks also received two hits each from Donohue, Politelli and Handy.  Freshman Kyle Pheland (North Scituate, R.I.) picked up the win in relief for the hosts despite allowing Sullivan’s homer to improve to 2-0 on the spring, as sophomore Thomas Betros (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) earned his second save of the season by fanning five of the six batters he faced over the final two innings.

Sophomore Jonathan Moffitt (Lake Mary, Fla.) rapped out a career-high three hits as part of a 12-hit attack in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as Mulhern and Sullivan each collected two hits and three RBI for the visitors.  Freshman Zac Cooney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) rapped out two hits at the plate but suffered the setback on the mound for the Buccaneers in relief of fellow freshman Tyler Smith (Bellingham, Mass.), who allowed a pair of earned runs and struck out five over the first six innings of work.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Wentworth in a non-league outing on Thursday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Salve Regina heads to North Dartmouth, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on UMass Dartmouth in a non-league contest that begins at 3:30 p.m.
