BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --  Junior Sean Riley (Fairhaven, Mass.) rapped out three hits and drove in four runs to back a pair of complete-game efforts on the mound from junior Kenny Pennini (Millis, Mass.) and sophomore Andy Sadoski (Harwich, Mass.) as Bridgewater State swept a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday afternoon by scores of 5-2 in the opener and 4-2 in the nightcap in games played at Alumni Park.

Junior Keane Costa (Fairhaven, Mass.) gave the host Bears (25-12, 11-1 MASCAC) a 1-0 lead their first at-bat in the opener with an RBI single, but the visiting Buccaneers (11-17, 3-9 MASCAC) evened matters in the second when sophomore Bob Lee (Braintree, Mass.) scored on a double-steal attempt.  Bridgewater State regained the lead in the bottom of the frame on an error, and Riley’s bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the fourth proved to be the difference in the contest, as Massachusetts Maritime got back to within three in the sixth on sophomore Ben Maher’s (Plymouth, Mass.) RBI single that accounted for the final score.  Riley accounted for two of the hosts’ six hits in the opener, as Pennini, who tossed a no-hitter against MCLA in his last outing, scattered nine hits and fanned five to improve to 4-2 on the season.  Lee collected three hits, including a pair of doubles, in the opening setback for the Buccaneers, who also received a pair of hits off the bat of sophomore Brendan O’Kane (Pocasset, Mass.).  Senior Jared Lowe (Brimfield, Mass.) went the distance on the mound for the visitors, allowing three earned runs and striking out four along the way.

Massachusetts Maritime jumped out to a 2-0 lead in its first at-bat in the nightcap on an RBI single by senior Billy Shouldice (Rutland, Vt.), who plated the second run on Lee’s third double of the day.  Riley led off the bottom of the frame with his seventh home run of the season for Bridgewater State, which evened matters two batters later when junior Tory Buck (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior David Pierce (East Bridgewater, Mass.).  The score remained tied until the fourth when junior John Garabedian’s (Mansfield, Mass.) two-out single gave the Bears the lead for good, as junior Trevor Lawson’s (Easton, Mass.) RBI single in the fifth gave the hosts an insurance tally that accounted for the final score.  Buck rapped out two of Bridgewater State’s nine nightcap hits in support of Sadoski, who allowed an earned run and struck out three to pick up his seventh win in eight decisions.  Shouldice and freshman Bobby Rosano (North Reading, Mass.) collected two hits each in the nightcap setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as freshman Zac Cooney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) went the distance and fanned four to fall to 2-4 on the spring for the Buccaneers.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Newbury in a non-league outing on Thursday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Bridgewater State travels to Springfield, Mass. on Friday afternoon to take on Western New England in a non-league contest that also begins at 3:30 p.m.
