GAME #1 FINAL:          JOHN JAY 5, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1

GAME #2 FINAL:          MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 8, JOHN JAY 3

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. --  Sophomore Ben Maher’s (Plymouth, Mass.) two-run double highlighted a five-run third inning rally that snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted Massachusetts Maritime to an 8-3 victory over John Jay in the nightcap of a season opening non-league baseball doubleheader as part of the Port Charlotte Snowbird Classic played Sunday afternoon at North Charlotte Regional Park.  The Bloodhounds took the opening game by a 5-1 final.

Junior Hunter Horton (Wareham, Mass.) chipped in with an RBI single as part of that third inning rally in the nightcap for the Buccaneers (1-1), who also received a run-scoring fielder’s choice in the frame from freshman Zacary Cooney (East Bridgewater, Mass.).  Senior William Shouldice (Rutland, Vt.) and sophomore Brendan O’Kane (Pocasset, Mass.) each collected RBI singles in the second game for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a sacrifice fly by sophomore Bob Lee (Braintree, Mass.) in presenting Head Coach Bob Corradi with his 525th career victory to start his 40th season on the bench.  Cooney picked up his first collegiate victory on the mound for the Buccaneers after escaping a bases loaded jam in the fifth, as he worked the final three innings in relief of senior Jared Lowe (Brimfield, Mass.), who allowed a run over the first four-plus frames.

Lee drove in the lone run of the opener for Massachusetts Maritime with a sacrifice fly, as junior Tyler Genereux (Duxbury, Mass.) was solid in his mound debut for the Buccaneers, allowing a pair of runs and fanning two over the first three innings of work.

Massachusetts Maritime opens its 2012 Northern schedule on Saturday, March 17th by hosting Lyndon State in a non-league doubleheader at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 1:00 p.m., while John Jay (1-1) continues play at the Port Charlotte Snowbird Classic on Tuesday afternoon by taking on Capital in a non-league contest at North Charlotte Regional Park that begins at 3:00 p.m.
